Statement

　2016年9月、郡上八幡でのアーティスイン・レジデンスの際、 市民の方々からたくさんの「いらなくなった造花」を譲っていただき、 インスタレーション作品を展示しました。
　搬出後、袋の中でたくさんの造花がひしめき合い、ぎゅうぎゅう詰めに 咲き絡む姿は何とも言えない存在感があり、生命力の固まりに見えました。
　その中からひとつひとつ造花を摘み取り、改めて作品にしていく行為は、 そこに無いはずの「生」とそこにある「死」との間を行き来するような不思議な旅でした。
　私がかつて住んでいた今は訪れることのなくなった家の花壇を 想い起こしたり、またこれから見るであろう風景のような気もしながら、 現実と夢の間に浮かぶ景色を形づくりました。


In September 2016, during my time as artist-in-residence in Gujo Hachiman, the locals gave me a lot of artificial flowers that they no longer needed and I used those to create and exhibit installations there.

After the flowers arrived, it seemed to me that the heaps of tangled blossoms that had been squished and squashed in the bag, had an indescribable presence – that they were really living things.

Thus, the act of plucking each artificial flower and recreating it as an artwork resembled a wondrous journey back and forth between life and death.

The process evoked memories of a flowerbed in an old home, that I can no longer return to, and also allowed me to reach for a future landscape, yet unseen, that floats between reality and my dreams.
